1955 Penny Value
A worn 1955-D penny is worth about 4¢ for its copper. In everyday use it still spends as one cent, since melting cents isn't allowed.
Uncirculated, that coin brings 25¢–$1, and a certified MS65 brings $10–20. The 1955-S is worth the most: about 10–25¢ even when worn.
An ordinary one is worth a few cents at most. Check the date and mint mark closely for the varieties below before spending it. The 1955-S is worth the most in worn condition, so check the mint mark first.

1955 doubled die obverse
Look for: Strong, obvious doubling on the date, LIBERTY and IN GOD WE TRUST, visible without magnification.
The most famous doubled die in U.S. coinage; worth well over a thousand dollars even worn.
Typical value: $1,500–3,000
Look-alike: worn-die doubling
Look for: Flat, smeared doubling, often only on the last 5 of the date.
Caused by a worn die (sometimes sold as the "poor man's doubled die"); worth little more than a normal 1955. Don't confuse it with the real doubled die.
